New Orleans' Celebrated Commander's Palace Will Reopen on Sunday, October 1, 2006

This autumn, one of America's most historic, bustling restaurants will reemerge in New Orleans' Garden District, promising new surprises, familiar favorites and that contagious joie de vivre. |
Guided by the unfaltering leadership of owners Lally Brennan, Ti Adelaide Martin and Ella and Dottie Brennan, Commander's Palace New Orleans will reopen its doors to the world on Sunday, October 1, 2006.
After months of spearheading fundraising initiatives and planning next steps, the Brennan's set the wheels in motion to reopen Commander's Palace. On board: James Beard nominated Rising Star Chef Tory McPhail, who has "commanded" the active kitchen (overseeing a staff of 50) at Commander's Palace for the past five years. Representing the finest of Creole and American heritages, Chef McPhail will reintroduce Commander's leading edge Haute Creole cuisine menu featuring locally-sourced product with creative renditions.
Classic New Orleans cocktails and wine selections from the restaurant's impressive, 800-bottle selection are on hand to complement the dining experience.
The refurbishing of the interior space, overseen by Lally and Dottie Brennan, and consulted by Ann Dupuy of New Orleans interior design firm Holden & Dupuy, will exude the same, artistic charm for which Commander's Palace is famous. Done in high style, it is elegance with a twist. As before, each room has its own distinctive ambiance. The Main Dining Room uses an adaptation of Gracie wallpaper (used from the White House to Bergdorf's chic new cafes) with cutting edge custom made chandeliers. The upstairs "naked lady" Parlour has been transformed to a soothing hip green with accents a la Dorothy Draper. And in the Coliseum Room, the classic molding and medallions were saved, but the room is now done in an "au courant" manner.
About Commander's Palace
Commander's Palace has amassed numerous awards, among them the James Beard Foundation Lifetime Outstanding Restaurant Award, Lifetime Service Award and Who's Who of Food and Beverage Award; appointment to the Nation's Restaurant News Fine Dining Hall of Fame; the Restaurants & Institutions Magazine Lifetime Ivy Award; the Nicholls University Lifetime Achievement Award; and many others, including awards from GQ, Food & Wine, Wine Spectator, Southern Living and Gourmet magazines. It's easy to see why "The City That Never Stops Eating" hasn't stopped eating at Commander's Palace for 126 years.
