National Restaurant Association Seeking Individuals and Companies That Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion
|
 |
Deadline to apply for Faces of Diversity awards extended to December 1, 2006 |
The National Restaurant Association is looking for candidates for its Faces of Diversity awards to raise awareness of diversity and inclusion and inspire others to expand their diversity efforts. The restaurant-and-foodservice industry is one of the most diverse industries in America, and prides itself on including individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. Two awards-the American Dream Award and the Inspiration Award-will be presented to one individual and one restaurant company next spring. The deadline to apply has been extended to December 1, 2006, and applications/nominations are being accepted online at www.restaurant.org/diversity.
"Few industries represent diversity and inclusion better than the restaurant industry, and the National Restaurant Association wants to recognize individuals and companies that make extraordinary efforts to embrace diversity," said Association President and Chief Executive Officer Steven C. Anderson. 'With 925,000 locations and 12.5 million employees, restaurants are on every street corner in America and serve as cornerstones of their communities. Understanding the value of diversity makes not only for sound business practices, but for an atmosphere of hospitality."
Faces of Diversity, created by the Association in partnership with PepsiCo Foodservice, aims to celebrate the restaurant industry's successes and inspire restaurateurs to embrace inclusion and expand their diversity efforts. The American Dream Award will honor an individual, from a diverse background who, through hard work and determination, has realized the American dream. The Inspiration Award will honor a company that has exhibited leadership and vision as an advocate of diversity and inclusion.
The restaurant industry employs more minority managers than any other industry. Women represent 55 percent of the restaurant workforce, and more than one-fourth of all foodservice managers are foreign-born. As the largest private-sector employer in the country, the industry provides career and employment opportunities for 12.5 million individuals.
