August Travel Price Index Increased 6.2 Percent

2006 August Travel Price Index, the TPI, was 0.6 percent lower than July 2006 and 6.2 percent higher than August 2005. |
Gasoline prices increased 19.6 percent over August 2005 and were down 0.5 percent from the previous month. Lodging prices were up 4.8 percent compared to August 2005 and declined 1.3 percent from the previous month. Airfares increased 5.8 percent against twelve months earlier and decreased 1.9 percent from the previous month. The Consumer Price Index, or CPI-U, was up 0.2 percent from previous month and 3.8 percent from August 2005.
