Starbucks March Same-Store Sales Rise

Starbucks Reports Strong March Revenues Net Revenues Increase 22 Percent

Starbucks Corporation (Nasdaq:SBUX) reported consolidated net revenues of $599 million for the five-week period ended April 3, 2005, an increase of 22 percent from consolidated net revenues of $493 million for the same five-week period in fiscal 2004. On a comparable store sales basis (stores open for at least 13 months), sales at Company-operated stores increased six percent for the five weeks ended April 3, 2005, as compared to the same five-week period in fiscal 2004.

"Delivering strong comparable store sales growth at the high end of our longer-term target range demonstrates our ongoing ability to grow the Starbucks brand on a global basis," stated Jim Donald, president and chief executive officer. "Starbucks espresso beverages and the continued expansion of our food program were key contributors to our March results, which were slightly offset by a timing shift in our Annual Brewing Event. Starbucks Annual Brewing Event occurred for 12 days during fiscal March 2005, as compared to 23 days in fiscal March 2004."

For the 26 weeks ended April 3, 2005, consolidated net revenues were $3.1 billion, an increase of 23 percent from consolidated net revenues of $2.5 billion for the same 26-week period in fiscal 2004. Comparable store sales increased nine percent for the 26 weeks ended April 3, 2005, as compared to the same 26-week period in fiscal 2004.
