Rowden formerly led global marketing at Callaway Golf and worldwide advertising at Coca-Cola
Wendy's International, Inc. (NYSE: WEN) announced that Ian B. Rowden has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the Wendy's® brand, effective December 12, 2004.
Rowden formerly led global marketing and advertising at two of the most recognized consumer brands in the world -- Callaway Golf Company and The Coca- Cola Company.
He will oversee all of Wendy's brand marketing strategies and initiatives, and will manage Wendy's advertising, research, product marketing and field marketing functions. Rowden will report to Wendy's North America President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Mueller.
"Ian is a dynamic executive who has successfully led marketing and advertising for highly respected global brands," said Mueller. "He will be an immediate contributor to our team with his extensive marketing experience and strategic focus on innovation, sales growth and profits."
Rowden was Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Callaway Golf from 2000-2004, reporting to the company's chairman and CEO. He led global marketing, brand stewardship, product development and subsidiary business initiatives in 68 countries. Rowden led product innovation at Callaway that produced the Great Big Bertha II, ERC Fusion, 2 Ball Putter and other successes. He also led a portfolio strategy for the company's core brands -- Callaway, Big Bertha, Odyssey and Warbird -- and introduced apparel and shoe lines for the company.
At Coca-Cola, Rowden was Vice President and Worldwide Director of Advertising from 1995-2000, where he was responsible for advertising for the company's global brands -- Coca-Cola, Diet Coke/Coca-Cola Lite, Fanta, Sprite, Minute Maid and Schweppes. He led all aspects of brand positioning and communications, including advertising, graphic design, packaging, consumer insights, sports properties and marketing alliances, and merchandising innovation.
Rowden was previously Vice President and Region Director for Coca-Cola China Ltd. and Vice President and Director of Marketing for Coca-Cola South Pacific. In addition to his international positions with Coca-Cola, Rowden also previously was Director and Managing Partner for DDB Needham Advertising (Australia's third largest advertising agency) and General Manager of Marketing for The Power Brewing Company in Australia.
Rowden was named into the Advertising Hall of Achievement in 1999. Sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, this is the advertising industry's premier award for outstanding professionals age 40 and under.
He graduated from the University of Wollongong, Sydney, Australia, with a degree in economics.
Rowden replaces Don Calhoon, who announced in August that he is moving into a semi-retirement role reporting to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jack Schuessler, where he will focus on marketing strategies and opportunities for the emerging brands.
