CKE Restaurants, Inc. Reports 18th Consecutive Period of Same-Store Sales Increases at Carl's Jr.(R) and Hardee's(R) in Period 11
CKE Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: CKR) announced period 11 same-store sales, for the four weeks ended November 29, 2004, for Carl's Jr.® and Hardee's®.
Brand Period 11 Fiscal Year to Date
FY 2005 FY 2004 FY 2005 FY 2004
Carl's Jr. 3.8% 3.1% 8.2% 2.2%
Hardee's 5.5% 6.4% 7.6% 1.3%
Commenting on the Company's performance, Andrew F. Puzder, president and chief executive officer, said, "The same-store sales increases for period 11 represent 18 consecutive periods of positive same-store sales growth for the company's two major brands -- Carl's Jr. and Hardee's. Two-year cumulative same-store sales growth also remained strong for both brands."
"The Guacamole Bacon Chicken Sandwich(TM) continued to sell well in period 11 and contributed to Carl's Jr. 3.8 percent same-store sales increase. During the latter half of the period, Carl's Jr. began selling the new Pastrami Burger(TM). However, advertising for this product started on the last day of period 11 and consequently did not substantively impact the brand's same-store sales for the period. On a two-year cumulative basis, Carl's Jr. same-store sales are up approximately 6.9 percent for period 11. For the 15th consecutive period, average unit volumes were higher than any comparable period in at least a decade." Revenue from company-operated Carl's Jr. restaurants (exclusive of all franchise-related revenue and royalties) for period 11 was approximately $42.4 million.
"Similarly, Hardee's began selling the new Monster Thickburger(TM) partway through period 11 with advertising beginning the last day of the period. However, the aptly named 2/3-lb. burger garnered international media attention for its audacity and, thus, partially contributed to Hardee's 5.5 percent same-store sales increase for the period. On a two-year cumulative basis, Hardee's same-store sales are up approximately 11.9 percent for period 11. For the 18th consecutive period, Hardee's average unit volumes were higher than any comparable period since 1999." For period 11, revenue from company-operated Hardee's restaurants (exclusive of all franchise-related revenue and royalties) was approximately $45.4 million.
For period 11, consolidated revenue from company-operated restaurants (exclusive of all franchise-related revenue and royalties) was approximately as follows:
Carl's Jr. $42.4 million
Hardee's $45.4 million
La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill(R) $ 3.3 million
Other $ .1 million
Total $91.2 million
Same-store sales results for the 12th period of fiscal year 2005, ending Dec. 27, 2004, will be reported on or about Jan. 5, 2005.
As of the end of the second quarter on Aug. 9, 2004, CKE Restaurants, Inc., through its subsidiaries, had a total of 3,206 franchised or company-owned restaurants in 44 states and in 13 countries, including 1,016 Carl's Jr. restaurants, 2,067 Hardee's restaurants and 105 La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill restaurants.
