497,000 pounds of beef recalled after illnesses |

|

Ground beef contaminated with E. coli has sickened four people in Minnesota and one in Wisconsin, prompting a nationwide recall of nearly 500,000 pounds of meat.
Minnesota health officials say all five of the victims, including one child, have recovered. They are asking doctors to watch for more cases, which can be fatal.
The company that processed the meat, Carneco Foods of Columbus, Neb., has voluntarily recalled 497,000 pounds of frozen ground beef processed June 21. It appears that the contaminated meat was sold primarily to Sam's Club stores.
