301 More Ways to Have Fun at Work

FANTASTIC!
Reviewer: frickta from New York, NY-United States
Can't understand what the others are bellyaching about-I found this to be a quick entertaining read that was full of great ideas and suggestions. Unlike the multitude of other books about fostering fun and creativity in the workplace that try to pretend that they are speaking of a finely-tuned science with complex procedures-this book says it like it is-it's just fun!
If you need an in-depth how-to book to have fun at work, trust me, this is the least of your problems.
I took the suggestions for the obstacle course race and we had a fantastic time in my office-everyone came out of their shells (cubicles rather) and joined in the fun...there were people there that I didn't even know had a sense of humor...
If you are looking for some long-winded analytical study of the concept of fun at work for the sake of fostering productivity and morale go elsewhere-this is just simple fun, fun to read, fun ideas, and fun to practice...
NICE!

Getting Past No : Negotiating Your Way from Confrontation to Cooperation

The greatest book on negotiation, conflicts and life
Reviewer: Marque Pierre Sndergaard from Copenhagen, Denmark
This book should be a must-read for anybody interested or involved not only in negotiation, but also in business, conflicts, diplomacy and interactions between people.
It is several years ago I read the book the first time, but still every week, if not very day, I find use for its principles.
This book along with Frank Bettger's classic on selling have proved to be the most important all-purpose books to my life and career.

Hare Brain, Tortoise Mind : How Intelligence Increases When You Think Less

A fabulous book for getting your thinking straight.
The author is the ultimate teacher, presenting his material in several forms and different ways till you "get it". He filled a gap in my thinking about how we do things, showing me the third leg of the conscious, the cerebellum and now the unconscious in mediating our actions. He showed me how to use my mind to much greater advantage and he cleared up some of my thinking about Joseph Campbell's myths and psychoanalysis.

Leading the Revolution

So much for the old economy, new economy divide. According to Gary Hamel, the professor-turned-strategy-guru author of Leading the Revolution, complacent establishment giants and one-strategy start-ups are on the same side of the fence--the wrong side. Corporate complacency and single-strategy business plans leave no room for what Hamel describes as the key to thriving in today's world of business: a deeply embedded capability for continual, radical innovation.
Leading the Revolution is not a calm analysis of what will or won't work in a post-industrial world. Instead, it's an impassioned call for revolutionary activists to shake the foundations of their companies' beliefs and move from a linear age of getting better, smarter, and faster, to a nonlinear age of becoming different. While in the past incremental improvements in products and services were accepted as good enough, Hamel shows that true innovation is the demolition and re-creation of an entire business concept. He blows apart the popular myth that innovation lies solely in the hands of dot.com dynamos like AOL and Amazon by scrutinizing the examples of such gray-haired revolutionaries as Enron and Charles Schwab, companies that have managed to reinvent both themselves and their entire industries, time and again.

Pro-active thinking! Reviewer: Todd Newman from Valparaiso, IN Bob Nelson has assembled a quick reading book on popular business concepts and situations facing a regular employee. He offers suggestions on becoming more pro-active than re-active to situations that arise through out many different careers. Nelson also gives examples of true story scenarios in which a person took a chance or challenged an idea and was later promoted for it. The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player

The 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player is another in a long line of titles by John Maxwell aimed at helping people attain their personal and leadership potential in the workplace. The book is organized into short chapters, each devoted to one of the 17 qualities that Maxwell deems essential to a successful and harmonious workplace, qualities such as competence, discipline, adaptability, commitment, selflessness, and preparedness. Maxwell's prose reads like a series of sermons, peppered with inspirational stories and quotes from personalities as diverse as Vince Lombardi ( The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender ) and Henry Ford ( Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success ). The book is for Maxwell fans and anyone looking for a sensible and formulaic approach to improving their lot, both at work and in life. --Harry C. Edwards
